Differences between webex meetings and webex webinars

Do you know the differences between webex meetings and webex webinars?

The main differences between Webex Meetings and Webex Webinars lies in the type of event or meeting each is designed to manage and the number of participants that can be involved. Here are the key differences:

Type of event or meeting:

  • Webex Webinars: It is designed for large-scale online events or webinars. It is ideal for presentations, seminars, conferences or events with a large audience (hundreds or thousands of participants) where there are a limited number of presenters or panelists. Participants mainly observe the event and have the possibility to interact in a controlled manner (questions, polls, chat).

  • Webex Meetings: It is geared towards small to medium-sized interactive meetings. It is more suitable for collaborative meetings where all participants can be active, talk, share screens and collaborate in real time. This type of meeting is more flexible, as all participants can intervene.

2. Participants and roles:

  • Webex Webinars: Attendees are primarily listeners or viewers. Only panelists and organizers can speak, share their screen or video. Attendees can interact via chat, Q&A or polls, but cannot activate their microphone or video by default, unless they are assigned a panelist role.

  • Webex Meetings: All participants have the ability to speak, share video and screen. Participants’ roles are more flexible: they can be presenters or attendees and can interact without significant restrictions during the meeting.

3. Interaction functions:

  • Webex Webinars: It has tools more oriented to passive audiences, such as polls, Q&A, and moderator chat to control the flow of the conversation. In addition, panelists can be more tightly managed.

  • Webex Meetings: Enables freer interaction between all participants. Attendees can talk, share their screen, use feedback and actively participate throughout the meeting.

4. Audience size:

  • Webex Webinars: It is designed for large audiences. It can accommodate from 100 to 3,000 or more participants, depending on the subscription plan.

  • Webex Meetings: It is geared more towards smaller, collaborative meetings, although it also has plans for meetings up to 1,000 participants. However, it is not optimized for large audience events.

5. Purpose:

  • Webex Webinars: Best suited for informational or educational events, such as seminars, workshops, conferences or product launches, where a small group of panelists present to a larger audience.

  • Webex Meetings: It is best suited for team collaboration and discussion, business meetings, interviews or any situation where participants need to be able to interact more freely.

6. Registration:

  • Webex Webinars: You have a customizable registration page for participants to register prior to the event. You can manage and track registered attendees.

  • Webex Meetings: It does not have as advanced a registration option as Webinars. While you can set up meetings with invitation links, it does not have the level of registration customization that Webex Webinars has.

7. Reports and analysis:

  • Webex Webinars: Provides detailed reports on attendance, interaction (chats, polls, questions) and participant performance, which is useful for tracking mass or commercial events.

  • Webex Meetings: Also offers reports, but they are more oriented to meeting metrics (who attended, meeting duration, etc.), and do not have the same level of detailed interaction analysis as Webex Webinars.

Summary of key differences:

Feature Webex Webinars Webex Meetings
Primary audience Passive (many viewers, few presenters) Participatory (all attendees can interact)
Audience size Large audiences (up to thousands) Smaller audiences (up to 100, 200, 1,000)
Interaction Limited (chat, Q&A, polls) Free (everyone can talk, video sharing, screen sharing)

Purpose Informative events, seminars, presentations Work meetings, team collaboration
Registration functionalities Advanced registration customization Not as advanced as in Webex Webinars

In summary, Webex Webinars are designed for mass events where interaction is limited and the focus is on content presentation, while Webex Meetings is more suitable for meetings where participants actively interact with each other.
