Solutel: From “Internet Plumbers” to Cybersecurity and Smart Communications Experts
Solutel, a company specialising in network interconnection, business communications and cybersecurity.
On May 8, courtesy of Club Cámara Valencia, on the program Aquí se emprende, on Capital Radio, Eduardo Alcalde spoke with Enrique San Valero, CEO of Solutel, a Valencian company specialized in network interconnection, business communications and cybersecurity. Founded almost 28 years ago by a group of engineers from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Solutel was born with the intuition that the technological gap between the university and companies was a business opportunity.
“We saw ourselves as ‘Internet plumbers’,” recalls Enrique, referring to his beginnings connecting company headquarters with their headquarters through data networks.
From University to Entrepreneurship
San Valero highlights how his training in computer science and his university environment were key to his professional development. Although he began public examinations and worked at the University, the influence of his partner Tomás – “a born entrepreneur” – pushed him into the business world. The company started in 1997, just as the Internet was beginning to expand in Spain.
Technological evolution and vision of the future
Solutel has grown by adapting to technological changes: from networks and voice over IP, to collaborative systems and now cybersecurity. Much of their work revolves around Cisco technologies, with whom they have a strategic relationship.
Artificial intelligence is the next big step. They are already developing solutions that allow, for example, to automatically transcribe recorded calls and generate summaries with AI. Enrique sees it as an opportunity: “It’s not about replacing people, but about gaining in productivity.”
TECHNOLOGY AND CYBERSECURITY EXPERTS

Continuing education and young talent
One of the pillars of Solutel is its commitment to continuous training. Enrique insists that curiosity and self-training are essential in the technology sector. “We prefer to train young talent from within,” he says, especially with Vocational Training profiles, which they integrate and train in their company philosophy.
Cybersecurity: the new priority
In recent years, cybersecurity has become one of the most in-demand areas. “We have helped several companies with serious security problems,” he says. The growth of threats has made many organizations invest more resources and become aware of the risks.
Challenges and ambitions
For the future, Enrique aspires to integrate more programming and automation into the systems they manage. “With AI, automating processes will be more dynamic and accessible,” he says. He also highlights that the growth of a company depends, to a large extent, on the ambition of its founders.
“Sometimes growing up is a bit lazy, but it’s also a matter of having the desire.”
Conclusion: The story of Solutel is an example of how a small university idea can become a solid company that evolves at the pace of technology. With a clear vision, a committed team and a commitment to young talent, they continue to position themselves as benchmarks in a sector in constant transformation.
