5G – Advantages

Robbins, CEO of Cisco: “There is no exaggeration with 5G, it is an incredible leap”

It promises dramatically improved performance for mobile workers and businesses.

Improve speed, latency and consumption.

What is 5G

The term 5G refers to the fifth generation mobile network. It presents a new technology improved from the current 4G / LTE, mainly in terms of speed, latency and consumption .

It is a new way of using mobile devices. It offers us advantages as greater connection speed and greater autonomy on the device , despite causing higher performance.

While the maximum speed of 4G technology is only 1 Gbps, the International Telecommunications Union has set the 5G speed in a standard of up to 10Gbps, speed higher than fiber optics.

Definitely, 5G is the new generation of mobile data .

As we have commented, the 5G speed promises to be much superior to the 4G mobile network and 100 times superior to current wireless systems, this represents a total revolution in the well-known IoT Internet of things : keep everything connected to your phone (the house, health services, cars, machines, appliances …)

Another of the numerous 5G advantages is the latency reduction. The transfer time of a data packet will be reduced, this latency being between 1 and 4 milliseconds. The communication will be immediate, as will the download of files. 5G technology will be fast, mobile and secure .

Characteristic 4G 4G + 5G
Speed (Mbps) 200 1200 10000
Latency (milliseconds) 100 20 1-4

Speed and latency also promote better connectivity from more places, as well as the connecting multiple devices simultaneously . The MIMO technology (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) allows us to transfer a greater amount of data between devices in the same space. This means that if we add more antennas, we can transport more data packets in the same time. That is, a higher transfer speed in the same time. It is what the 5G ; Up to 100 more connected devices per unit area compared to 4G and LTE networks.

Lower latency improves the performance of business applications and other digital experiences such as online games, video conferencing, and automobiles with autopilot …

Whereas previous generations like 4G LTE aimed to ensure connectivity, 5G technology takes connectivity to the next level by offering connected experiences from the cloud to customers . 5G networks are virtualized and run on software, and take advantage of cloud technologies.

5G architectures will be software-defined platforms, where the functionality of the network is managed through software rather than hardware . Advances in virtualization, cloud-based technologies, and IT and business process automation enable the 5G architecture to be agile and flexible, offering anytime, anywhere user access.

5G and Wifi6 will be implemented together in the company

For the IT department of companies, it will be a challenge to manage these access technologies separately, and it will be a priority to have them as integrated systems, with unified policies, security and analysis.

Users and devices will need to move between 5G and Wi-Fi 6 systems, and the IT manager will want the experience to be seamless and easy to manage at scale.

The 5G network will also simplify mobility, with seamless open roaming capabilities between cellular and Wi-Fi access. Mobile users can stay connected while roaming outside wireless connections and wireless networks within facilities without user intervention or the need to re-authenticate.

Power x Cisco 5G

Cisco is implementing a cloud-to-customer approach to 5G, unifying multi-vendor solutions in a single, standards-based architecture. It covers multiple clouds, IP routing, 5G core, edge service, access networks, IoT, and security. It delivers the technology you need, where you need it, so you can maintain, and even exceed, what your customers want.
